ABOUT ME

Ph.D. in Political Science

I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati, specializing in political science with a focus on the dynamics of political participation and democratic citizenship. I earned my Ph.D. in Politics from Arizona State University, where I was honored to be a Fulbright scholar. My research investigates the complex relationships between democratic engagement and policy efficacy in Latin America, particularly examining how citizenship initiatives can enhance both democracy and civic involvement.

My current work delves into the role of hope and solidarity as a crucial source of power in democratic engagement, exploring how it motivates and empowers individuals to participate in political processes. I utilize a comprehensive mixed-methods approach, incorporating ethnography, interviews, text analysis, and ordinary least squares (OLS) analysis. This multidisciplinary lens allows me to tackle critical issues such as political violence, transitional justice, social movements, and the challenges of democratic citizenship.

In addition to my research, I am passionate about social action and have collaborated with governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across Latin America to design, implement, and manage initiatives that promote social justice and democratic participation. My commitment lies not only in contributing to academic discourse but also in advancing practical solutions that foster inclusive democracy and empower communities. Prior to my current role, I served as an assistant professor at the esteemed Universidad Externado de Colombia, where I engaged in interdisciplinary programs that deepened my theoretical understanding of political systems and social change.
