WHEN WOMEN SAY “NO MORE”: CONTENTIOUS POLITICS AND GENDER POLICIES
Dissertation
This project aims to understand why women’s mobilizations escalated in magnitude and opposition toward power-holders in Latin America despite an increase in progressive gender policies. This comparative research in Colombia, and México, attempts to contribute to understanding women’s movements in Latin America and worldwide and other identity-based groups. Several studies show how contentious politics impact policy-making but have not focused on which degree the latter influence the former. I conducted 39 interviews, fieldwork, and data collection on Twitter to test the relationship between policymaking and mobilization.
